San Juan Capistrano, Calif. – Rancho Mission Viejo and Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) officials today announced the opening of an innovative and first-of-its-kind prefabricated interim fire station for the new Village of Rienda. The approximately 2,600-square-foot modular concept facility was built as part of the Fire Protection Agreement for Rancho Mission Viejo. The interim station is located at 31544 Cow Camp Road.
“We’re really proud to have partnered with OCFA and Xtreme Cubes to create this innovative concept for a prefabricated interim fire station of this scale. It looks and feels like a permanent fire station without sacrificing space, environment and comfort, which is what so often happens with temporary stations,” said Paul Johnson, Executive Vice President of Community Development at Rancho Mission Viejo. “The overall safety and welfare of Rancho Mission Viejo residents and the broader community is our number one priority, and this new facility will allow OCFA to better serve The Ranch.”
The station was designed, engineered, fabricated and assembled by Xtreme Cubes, a custom modular construction company based in Henderson, Nevada. It will house a four person engine company including a Captain and is estimated to be in operation for the next five to 10 years until a permanent station is constructed in a more central location within Rienda.
“The days of ‘Traditional Construction’ are over. Modular is a greener, faster, and smarter way to build. The factory-controlled process generates less waste, creates fewer site disturbances, and allows for tighter construction. Fabrication of modular buildings co-occurs with the site work, allowing projects to be completed in half the time of traditional construction and are built with the same materials and to the same building codes and architectural specifications. Once assembled, they are indistinguishable from their site-built counterparts,” said a representative for Xtreme Cubes. “Collaborating and partnering with Rancho Mission Viejo and OCFA has been an exciting process for Xtreme Cubes to define our footprint in the modular industry further. Xtreme Cubes is excited to have delivered a successful project that will serve as an Interim Fire Station for Rienda.”
OCFA employees will be able to work and live out of the facility that contains the following features:
- Six dorm style rooms
- Captain’s office
- Four bathrooms, including an ADA accessible public bathroom
- Full kitchen
- Office space
- Dispatch area
- Day room
- Fitness room
- Technical mechanical room
- Telecommunications room
- Apparatus to support three fire trucks
- Fully landscaped and gated
“There is a reason OCFA’s mission statement begins with our commitment to continuously evolve to meet the ever-changing needs of our communities,” said Brian Fennessy, Fire Chief of the Orange County Fire Authority. “Station 67 is the physical manifestation of that goal as we proudly expand with and adapt to the growing community and fire protection needs of Rancho Mission Viejo.”
Once the permanent Rienda fire station is completed, the prefabricated station will have the potential to be repurposed in the community.
The Village of Rienda is located less than five miles from downtown San Juan Capistrano and a fifteen-minute drive from San Clemente and Doheny State Beach, with easy access provided to the employment and retail centers of Ladera Ranch, Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, Irvine, and other Orange County areas. Homes are currently selling in the first two phases of Rienda.
